I was reminded this morning of just how persistent urban myths can be. My mom for instance buy’s the whole Nieman Marcus cookie story without question. While this is kinda cute in this instance, some of the other urban myths to do with saving yourself and better health are outright disturbing. Everytime I mention that this or that may be a myth I’m rebuffed with the response ‘well it came from your cousin/aunt/uncle or whatever’. All I can say is, yeah whatever but did you ever think about where they got it from? Not likely and thats why I’m a believer in snopes.com One of the best Urban Myth sites around, it should be no surprise that most of the e-mails making the rounds are baseless! Meaning, Nieman Marcus didn’t charge the ladies credit card $800 for the recipe and Microsoft ISN’T going to send you a check for $1000 for forwarding me that friggin e-mail. It also means that the “man eating killer kodiak’ taken in Alaska WASN’T attacking anyone. The USAF specialist was hunting deer and he happened to have a bear tag too. So when he crossed paths with the bear, it was harvested; it’s not a world record either! So please, no more killer choclolate chip kodiak bear cookie stories; I just might pop a blood vessel!
